A high-ranking Navy officer came to Linden Loftier School on Feb. 21, to inspect the school's NJROTC cadets. He left liking what he saw.

Commander Christian Gaskill and his team of active-duty service members from Navy Recruiting District – New York looked over each of the high school's 450-plus cadets i-by-1, request questions about their cognition and their uniform every bit function of the unit's annual inspection.

"This is a very impressive group," Gaskill said in a speech during a anniversary that followed the inspection. 2018 Tertiary District American Legion Oratorical Contest

The 2018 Third District American Legion High Schoolhouse Oratorical Contest finals were conducted Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Municipal Building, Woodbridge. Two students, both juniors in loftier school, delivered a prepared oration nearly some stage of the Constitution of the U.s.a., as well as an oration on a randomly assigned constitutional topic. The district covers Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Somerset and Hunterdon counties.

Ria Patel, sponsored by Post 522, Monroe Township, an 11th-grade student at Monroe Loftier School, was the district winner and will now compete in the state finals at the Trenton War Memorial on March 31.  Patel placed 2d concluding yr.Lia Formica, an 11th-form pupil at N Hunterdon Voorhees High Schoolhouse placed second.

The purpose of The American Legion High School Oratorical Competition is to develop a deeper noesis and appreciation of the Constitution of the U.s. on the office of all loftier school students. Objectives of the competition include the evolution of leadership qualities, thinking and speaking clearly, and preparation for accepting the duties and responsibilities of American citizenship. Students brainstorm contest at the Post level and progress through canton, district, regional and land competitions.

The Wardlaw+Hartridge Schoolhouse

The Wardlaw + Hartridge Schoolhouse in Edison conducted its inaugural Shakespeare Recitation Competition on February. 23 in the Oakwood Room. Six Upper School performers memorized and performed a monologue or soliloquy from one of William Shakespeare's 39 plays. Students were judged on iii elements: understanding, expression and advice.CJ Stueck of Scotch Plains prevailed every bit the winner of a very tight competition.

As well: On Tuesday, February. 27, students from The Wardlaw + Hartridge School in Edison's Upper School Robotics class and Middle Schoolhouse Robotics Social club visited Xavier High School in New York City for a Robotics Seminar. Xavier Schoolhouse offered a warm welcome and hands-on support from robotics coach Mike Chiafulio and v seniors.

"Students and faculty at Xavier School were very knowledgeable and helpful.  I learned a lot during the workshop," Yuhan Kong of Parlin said.

Students navigated the Wood Dweller Claiming; an obstacle course using bump sensors and depth sensors. In add-on, students calibrated and programmed cameras to detect colored objects.

"I really enjoyed meeting students at Xavier High School, they were extremely helpful.  Their edifice suggestions helped my squad ameliorate our bump skirt," Faizah Naqvi of S Plainfield said.

Afterward in the year, Eye and Upper School teams volition use their skills to compete in a Botball Tournament.

"I'm glad that we got to use their laboratory to run our robot on their competition ground," Wilson Huang of Plainfield said.
